What exactly is an alcohol addiction? I mean, really, if you have one are you addicted to alcohol or are you just hooked on what happens when you drink it? Who knows? There are actually people in this world who have built their careers on coming up with the answer to that question. And in all honesty, anyone’s guess is good as mine. My deal with alcohol has always been just that–my deal. Am I addicted just because I’m addicted to alcohol or is it because life just seems so much more liveable when I’m buzzed? Scratch that. Is it because life seems more liveable when I’m drunk? Gotta be real, the term “buzzed” is a cop out. Either way, it’s really hard to tell. I guess if I had the answers then I probably would have never become the mess that I am today. Let’s face it, if you can see a twenty car accident coming up ahead on the road, do you go full speed ahead or do you pump your brakes and slow down? The answer to that I’m sure is easy, but the one answer that continues to evade me is why do I have an alcohol addiction? I’m sure I’ll find the answer to that question someday. As long as I maintain focus and finish the program at the alcohol treatment center I’ve been living at I know that I’ll be able to answer that question with confidence.
