Eating disorder pathology is always both physical and psychological in nature
August 14, 2007 6:23 pm Eating Disorder, Eating Disorder treatmentEating disorder treatment is first and foremost a medical undertaking. Eating disorder patients are the victims of disease, after all: of a clinical disorder with clinical roots. Eating disorder pathology is always both physical and psychological in nature; eating disorder victims, in other words, are sick both in mind and body. And eating disorder treatment programs can only succeed if they address them as such.
Eating disorder treatment that works invariably incorporates both physical and psychological care programs. Indeed, eating disorder treatment that fails to address both dimensions of the disease can’t even be considered eating disorder treatment in the first place…for the simple reason that it can’t ever effect meaningful eating disorder treatment recovery. Eating disorder treatment victims only get better if they get “all-the-way” better: better in both spirit and substance. Anything less just isn’t good enough.
